How to Get to Barbados from the UK, Canada & USA: 2026–27 Flights, Entry & Tips

Quick answer

Barbados (BGI) has non-stop flights from London Heathrow and Gatwick, Manchester and other UK airports (8–9 hours), from Toronto, Montréal and Halifax (around 5–6 hours from Toronto), and from Miami, New York JFK, Newark, Boston, Charlotte, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Washington Dulles (3–5 hours). UK, Canadian and US citizens do not need a visa, but must complete the free online ED card before arrival.

Barbados is one of the easiest Caribbean islands to reach from Britain and North America. Here is what you need to know for the winter 2026–27 season.

Flights from the UK

  • British Airways — London Heathrow all year, plus a new daily London Gatwick service from 25 October 2026.
  • Virgin Atlantic — London Heathrow all year, and seasonal Manchester flights from 26 October 2026 to 19 March 2027.
  • TUI — seasonal flights from Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Newcastle.
  • Flight time is about 8–9 hours. Barbados is 4 hours behind GMT in winter (5 hours behind BST).

Flights from Canada

  • Air Canada — Toronto Pearson all year, Montréal seasonally, and Air Canada Rouge from Halifax from 17 December 2026.
  • WestJet — Toronto Pearson (WestJet absorbed Sunwing in 2025).
  • Air Transat — Montréal from 13 December 2026, on Wednesdays and Sundays.
  • Toronto to Barbados takes around 5–6 hours. Barbados is one hour ahead of Toronto in winter and the same time in summer.

Flights from the USA

  • American Airlines — Miami, Charlotte and Philadelphia.
  • JetBlue — New York JFK and Boston.
  • Delta — Atlanta, plus seasonal New York JFK.
  • United — Newark and Washington Dulles.
  • Miami is about 3–3.5 hours; New York and Boston about 4–5 hours.

Entry requirements

UK, Canadian and US citizens can visit Barbados without a visa. Bring a passport valid for your whole stay and proof of your return or onward flight. All arriving travellers must complete the free online Embarkation/Disembarkation (ED) card at travelform.gov.bb, which opens 72 hours before arrival; save the confirmation to your phone. Departure tax is normally included in your airline ticket. Always check your government’s latest travel advice before you go.

Money, power and driving

  • The Barbados dollar is fixed at BBD 2 to US$1, and US dollars are widely accepted. Cards work in most restaurants and shops; carry some cash for buses, street food and smaller stalls.
  • Many restaurants add a 10–15% service charge.
  • Sockets are the North American type (115V). UK visitors should pack a US-style adapter.
  • Barbados drives on the left. Car hire companies can issue the visitor’s driving permit.
  • Tap water is safe to drink and English is the official language.

When to visit

The dry season from December to May brings the most sunshine and the busiest, most expensive weeks, especially Christmas, New Year and February half-term. Temperatures stay around 22–30°C (low 70s to mid 80s °F) all year. Hurricane season runs from June to November; direct hits are rare, but travel insurance is always wise. See our Barbados events calendar to time your trip around a festival.

From the airport to your villa

Grantley Adams International Airport is on the south-east of the island. Typical journeys are 10–15 minutes to The Crane and Atlantic Shores, 15–20 minutes to St Lawrence Gap and Dover, about 30 minutes to Royal Westmoreland and 35–40 minutes to Port St. Charles and Mullins.
